For Mariatu Kargbo, the dream of becoming a nurse is deeply personal.

Mariatu is a Senior Secondary 1 student at EduNations in Sierra Leone. She began attending EduNations in Prep 1 and has continued her education despite significant challenges along the way.

Mariatu lost both of her parents at a young age. Her father passed away when she was too young to remember him, and her mother died several years later. Today, Mariatu lives with her aunt, her mother's younger sister, who supports the household through farming and a small trading business. Mariatu also has four siblings, although they do not all live together.

With limited financial resources, accessing school materials and attending classes consistently has sometimes been difficult. Even with these challenges, Mariatu has remained committed to continuing her education.

When Mariatu reflects on her time at EduNations, she talks about both the education she's received and the confidence she's gained along the way.

"Since joining EduNations, my life has changed in many positive ways. I have gained access to quality education, learned important life skills, and developed greater confidence in myself."

The relationships Mariatu has built at school have also been important to her. She enjoys studying Religious and Moral Education, and the encouragement of her teachers and classmates has helped her stay focused on her goals.

"The support from my teachers and classmates has encouraged me to work hard and stay focused on my goals. I now believe that I can achieve my dream of becoming a nurse and helping others in my community."

Mariatu's dream of becoming a nurse is closely connected to her own family's experience. When she was younger, she watched her mother struggle with illness. That experience stayed with her and inspired her desire to care for others who are sick.

As Mariatu continues her education, she hopes to one day become a nurse and use what she's learned to help people in her community.

Mariatu is grateful for the people who have helped make her education possible. She wanted to share a message with those who support students like her:

"Thank you for investing in the education and future of students like me. Your generosity has given me opportunities that I may not have had otherwise. Because of your support, I can continue my education, pursue my dream of becoming a nurse, and work toward creating a better future for myself and my community. I am deeply grateful for everything you do."

We're thankful to be a small part of Mariatu's journey and grateful for the people who have helped her continue her education. Through student sponsorship, you can come alongside students like Mariatu, helping them stay in school and work toward the futures they hope for.
