Bakeries

EduNations Bakeries Project Summary

The EduNations Bakeries Project was established to serve both nutritional and economic development goals within our rural communities in Sierra Leone. These bakeries are community-based initiatives that provide fresh, affordable bread to students and families while also creating local jobs and generating income that can be reinvested into the schools.

By employing community members, including parents of students, the bakeries help support livelihoods and promote ownership and sustainability. Profits from bakery sales are often used to supplement school operations or student meal programs, further enhancing the impact of this initiative.

The Bakeries Project empowers communities to be active participants in the development and support of their own schools, fosters economic independence, and ensures a consistent food source for students—many of whom face food insecurity at home. This project exemplifies EduNations’ holistic approach to education by meeting physical needs while promoting long-term sustainability and local leadership.

Bakeries can be found in Rokassa, Gbenekoro, Mapainda, and Fintonia.

Pillars: Physical Development, Psychosocial Development
