Welcoming Three New Social Workers

EduNations is grateful to welcome M’balu Fonti-Kanu, Salimatu Kamara, and Margaret Deen Kamara as Social Workers in Sierra Leone.
Their addition to our team is an answered prayer and an important step forward in our commitment to comprehensively educating and caring for every student. Together, M’balu, Salimatu, and Margaret bring experience in community development, education, child protection, counseling, mental healthcare, and psychosocial support.
At EduNations, we believe education means caring for the whole child—intellectually, physically, psychosocially, and spiritually. Alongside providing quality education, we want our students to have the emotional, social, and psychological support they need to navigate challenges, build resilience, and pursue their futures with hope.
M’balu Fonti-Kanu
M’balu Fonti-Kanu is a dedicated community development professional with a First-Class Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Sociology. She brings seven years of experience as a Community-Based Facilitator with the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA).
Her expertise includes stakeholder engagement, community outreach, data collection and reporting, program implementation, and supporting vulnerable populations. M’balu’s passion for education and community empowerment will be valuable as she works alongside EduNations students, families, schools, and surrounding communities.
Salimatu Kamara
Salimatu Kamara brings four years of experience with EduNations, having previously served as a teacher, Child Protection Agent, and guidance counselor for senior secondary students.
Her transition into the role of Social Worker allows her to build upon the relationships she has already established with students and her understanding of their needs.
Known for her compassion and commitment to supporting others, Salimatu views this work as part of her life’s purpose to protect, guide, and empower young people. She remains deeply committed to EduNations’ mission of igniting hope through education, compassionate care, and advocacy.
Margaret Deen Kamara
Margaret Deen Kamara is a Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Counsellor, former Lecturer, and Psychosocial Support Specialist with extensive experience providing compassionate, evidence-based care in Sierra Leone.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Makeni and has worked in hospitals, universities, and community health programs. Her experience includes providing psychological care and counseling, developing treatment plans, teaching psychology, and supporting individuals and families facing mental health challenges and chronic illnesses.
Fluent in English, Krio, and Themne, Margaret is passionate about helping children and young people overcome challenges and build resilience. She chose to join EduNations because she believes every child deserves both a quality education and the emotional and psychosocial support needed to thrive.
Strengthening Care for Our Students
In their new roles, M’balu, Salimatu, and Margaret will work alongside educators, families, and community members to help create safe and supportive learning environments throughout EduNations’ schools.
They will help identify students’ needs, protect vulnerable children, strengthen families, and support young people as they navigate challenges.
An important part of their work will be partnering closely with the Child Protection Agents serving in each EduNations school. Through ongoing communication between the schools and Social Work team, concerns can be identified early, students can receive appropriate support, and individual cases can be followed consistently.
We have prayed for qualified, compassionate people to fill these important roles, and we are grateful for God’s provision through M’balu, Salimatu, and Margaret. Their combined knowledge, experience, and dedication will strengthen our ability to care for the whole child and ignite lasting hope in the lives of students and families across rural Sierra Leone.
